A superb Georgian cutlery box circa 1780. Mahogany with vertical stringing and semi herringbone style inlay. Silver coat of arms shield to the front with a negro's head, (unsure if female or male), possibly indicating a family with slave trade connections? Missing brass item on the front of the lid, (normally some type of jewel shaped brass decorative item) and a missing lock escutcheon - both removed in antiquity. All other fittings originals. One 2" split to the wood on the right hand side of the lid, but otherwise in splendid order. Weighs an impressive 1.8Kgs

A pair of earthenware fu dogs in a three colour glaze. Possibly 17th Century. If not, then most likely a copy made in antiquity, probably Victorian. Some damage. The bases of each dog have many chips and nibbles exposing the earthenware base, the end of one incisor on one dog has been lost, the top curl on one of the dog's tails has been lost altogether and there is a rather poor earlier restoration to another of his curls. Various other tiny chips and scrapes, all consistent with loved objects of considerable date. Please note that we offer a pottery and porcelain repair service, although I would be reluctant to send this piece on to it as if it is 17th Century then any restoration could be detrimental to both its historical and financial values. However, quotations are available on request. Each chap measures around 7" x 4" x 10 1/4" or 18 x 10 x 27 cms (W x D x H). The pair weigh an exceptionally hefty 2.8Kgs

A Berlin made c1904 covered lion handled pot pourri vase. Impressed letter D to the underside along with a blue painted mark that looks more like 1830s but I will date to 1904 to err on the side of caution. Heavily gilded swags and lion head with hoop handles with hand painted bows to the base and pineapple form finial. Fine detail gilding to the pierced cover, lion heads and footed base. Superb Italianate period landscape and figural scenes to two sides. Some rubbing or wear to the gilding, but no chips, cracks or repairs. Some rust marks to the underside from the bolt holding the base to the vase. The pictures speak for themselves. Stands about 14 1/4 inches 36cms high and weighs 2150g unpackaged

An enormous and beautifully decorated Ye Olde Foley Ware breakfast cup and saucer by James Kent of Fenton, Staffordshire Potteries. Dates to around 1910. The cup and saucer are decorated in a Dutch style with windmills and country scenes in blue and white transfer. The cup stands 4 inches 10cms high whilst the saucers diameter is an impressive 8.5 inches 22cms. Looks like it will hold about 1.25 pints of tea. Some crazing to the inside of the cup in particular, but no chips, cracks or repairs. Made from earthenware. Previously owned but good condition. Quite heavy crazing to inside of cup. Blue and white transfer Dutch windmill design. Huge - the saucers diameter is 8.5 inches!

An unmounted Spanish book plate map of Montgomeria or Montgomeryshire. About 26 inches x 22 inches, 66 x 56 cms. A previous owner has written in pencil to a corner 1648 which makes sense as the coat of arms near to the top right corner is of Philip Herbert, 4th Earl of Montomershire and Pembroke who became Earl in 1605 and died in 1650. There are a number of tears around the edges and a little bit of light creasing as can be clearly made out in the photographs.

A vintage clockwork Italian made musical cigarette box with a matchbox holder with exposed striking panel. In burr wood with inlaid ebony stringing. Four ebony button feet and an ebony handle to start the mechanism. When the button is twisted, the box begins by playing the Italian National Anthem as it opens and O Sole Mio as it closes. The mechanism is stiff and needs some attention - either lubrication or perhaps a washer or two to raise the opening panel as it sticks at the bottom right. Measures about 6 1/2 x 6 3/4 x 4 inches 16.5 x 17 x 10 cms and weighs 765g. There are a few small 'bleached' areas where I am guessing the sun has got to it, but no damge or splits of any kind to the wood.

A superb transfer printed and hand tinted octagonal earthenware plate by Wallis Gimson & Co of Lane Delph Pottery, Fenton, Staffordshire. This factory operated between 1884 and 1890 only producing earthenware items such as this. This octagonal plate was one of a series depicting famous Victorians and was produced in about 1886. This is plate number five of the Portrait Series depicting the Right Honourable Joseph Chamberlain MP - the famous Liberal-cum-Imperialist. He was more usually pictured wearing his monocle. The plate itself is quite heavily crazed but this does not detract from its quality. As you would expect, this is an extremely rare plate and it is unlikely that we will ever be in a position to offer another. Measures 9.5 inches in width and height.

A pair of c1880 Meiji period twin handled Japanese bronze vases. Relief decorated with birds on branches and with the handles in the form of bird's heads. Each vase stands about 15 1/4 inches 39cms high and has a diameter at the top of 5 1/2 inches 14cms. The pair weigh 4.4Kgs unpackaged hence the high delivery costs detailed below. One of the vases has a small puncture hole near to its base and a small chip about half way up. The other is missing the pins that fit the top part of the vase to the base, but it appears to be well and truly stuck together.
