Chris Walton, Artist's Statement

"My current artistic practices' major influence is the decline of manufacturing and the textile industry in the UK.

Having served a boilermaking apprenticeship in the 1970s, and over the past 30 years watched the decline of the aforementioned industries in this, the home of the Industrial Revolution, I intend to take waste material and recycle it.

Using the symmetry and logic of an engineering background, I have taken the waste and turned it into a frameless wall hanging art form, with the use of shape and open spaces.

This has been achieved by incorporating the thinking of Carl Andre's 'Equivalent 8' by taking a building material out of its context and environment and mixing it with the straight lines of Piet Mondrian, with an overlay of shapes to give it a three dimensional effect.

This, I feel, keeps alive the beauty of metal in its base and simplistic state"
