Antique Victorian Walnut Writing & Blotting Binder and Correspondence / Letter Box. Both brass bound with inset ivory detailing. The writing book measures (closed) 8 1/2" x 12", 22 x 30 cms and weighs 890g. The curved lidded desktop box measures 9 1/2" x 5 " x 6 1/2" or 24 x 13 x 16.5cms (W x D x H) and weighs 1100g. Both items have cracks to the ivory and the writing folder has a couple of very minor cracks appearing to the wood itself. |

A high quality solid brass goffering iron dating to around 1800. This one is understood to have been used to finish and crimp the lace on Welsh hats, (our client informs us knowing something of its history). Brass goffering irons were only owned by the best houses. Most were made from iron. Iron rods, much like pokers, were made red hot in a fire and inserted alternately into the back of the goffering iron in order to maintain the correct heat. Please note that we do not have the pokers themselves. The stand has become squint over its many years of use and is a little pitted and bashed as you would expect a 200 year old object to be. Stands about 9 1/2 inches high and weighs 900g. | |||
